Welcome to my photo gallery, I hope you'll enjoy viewing my pictures!
These pages' main function is to bring my pictures forth to people, friends and strangers alike.
I've tried to pick only the jewels of my collection on these pages, but as beauty is in the eye of
the beholder, some of these images can be found lacking in your eyes and some of my picture you'd
consider great may not be present here.
Depending on the success of these pages I may or may not add these pages to include a more extensive
representation of my works, but as for now I'm constrained by the quota of the server where my site lies on.
The gallery is split into ten main catogories:
has pictures of nature in general –scenics, details, skies and such. At this point the gallery mostly consists
of pictures of my childhood home town Hämeenlinna, Finland. I also have various pictures from around Britain,
especially from Newcaste upon Tyne, my home for a year. In the future the gallery will expand with pictures from
my current home, Tampere, Finland.
I’ve found that a simplistic approach suits me the best. I try to include only the essentials in my pictures,
so that the viewers can rest their eyes on the them.
has pictures of nature, but with the hand of man present in them. In some pictures nature plays the second fiddle
with man made constructions as the main point of focus, but with other picture the touch of man is much more
subtle, such as a forest path.
Personally Man and Nature is my favourite gallery.
has picture taken within residential areas where the subject is clearly not just man made, but part of the
infrastructure of the city or town itself, such as buildings or bridges. Bulk of the images in this gallery are
from Newcastle upon Tyne, which is famous for its bridges, especially the Tyne Bridge.
For cityscapes the best time of day is in the few moments before and after sunset, when the sky is colourfully
lit and the city emits its own magical light. While picture taken in the morning have their own aura about them,
the combination that a good sunset gives has no equal.
The cityscape gallery is one of the favourites of you viewers –it receives the most positive feedback.
has pictures of all the small things imaginable to man, but mostly insects and spiders. I find it very cathartic
to roam around fields, woods and gardens in search of the ‘ultimate bug’. As macro photography requires a lot of
special gear for which I have currently very little funds, I’m quite constrained in my expression.
I hope that in the future I’ll be able to develop my macro photography much further.
I know that for many people the sight of ten centimeter spiders appearing infront of their eyes isn’t the most
pleasant of experiences. But for those who enjoy the wonders of the near microscopical nature can feast their eyes on
sights vary rarely seen –not that these would be too hard to find, but because most people don’t realise to look
for them.
has pictures pictures of the loveliest part of nature –flowers. I’ve included other plants and some mushrooms
as well as I haven’t taken too many pictures to set up a separate mushroom gallery. Flora photography is a tough
art to master and an easy one to get all wrong. I’m rarely very satisfied with my flora photography, but when I
succeed the results seem to please other people as well.
The flora gallery has the only award winning picture I have. The first picture of a purple bell flower was the
editor’s pick in flora category of week 25-31.7.2004 in
http://www.naturephotographers.net web forum.
has picture of mammals of all sorts. I have to admit that most of the Pictures were taken in the Helsinki Zoo as
most mammals don’t prance around in front of our faces for us to take pictures –with the exception of our pets who
often do so.
Fortunately the gallery isn’t completely filled with captive animals, but has some picture of the gray seals of
Farne Islands, North East England. It is quite magical to see animals you mostly see in captive environments to be
in their natural habitats, even if you have to be tens of meters away from them in a rocking boat.
I hope that I’ll have the opportunity to explore my native Finland in search of its mammals, such as bears,
wolverines, reindeers and elk, as well.
But on the other hand captive animals can be as endearing as wild ones, just look at the mungoose cubs, huddled
together.
has pictures of birds, mostly wild ones. England with its temperate climate and proximity to the sea has a variety
of species either hard to find in Finland or in closer proximity to human habitat.
Surprisingly some of the picture in this gallery were taken from the new Millennium Bridge in Newcastle, where
different species of gulls thrive in the chillier winter months. The gallery has a large collection of the different
birds found in Farne Islands; puffins, cormorates, guillemots etc.
Taking picture of birds in their natural habitat is more satisfying than in captivity, as their behaviour is
more natural and often including more of the background just adds to the image rather than substracts from it.
is my personal playground. These images were not picked for their beauty but for their personal signifigance to me.
Most of them are representation of methods of manipulation I have tried. Some of them I consider pretty in the
conventional sense, such as the silhouette of a crow, but some just evoke a certain feeling in me, which I
constitute as enough reason to include them in this very liberal gallery.
has all of my pictures that are now for sale on the
http://www.kuvaporssi.com website.
By typing the picture ID (found under the picture) in the search field you can view the picture and purchase
it. The sizes available are from web license pictures (79 €) to full resolution pictures (399€). All of the other
pictures on my website are available for purchase as well for half the price (40 € web license to 200 € full resolution),
but shipping is only available by electronic means (FTP/SSH2/e-mail) and will take a bit longer (the same day
if I'm within reach of my database, but within a couple of days or weeks, if I'm away).
Please do notice that the pictures are available as royalty free (RF) pictures, meaning that the purchaser has
unlimited rights to use the pictures for their own use but no right to sell them or copy them to a third party!
has pictures of, surprisingly, people. I’m very picky in my portraiture and candid photography, which translates
to very few pictures in the gallery. But as I'm often asked to photograph all kinds of events I do manage to take some
pictures I'm quite content with. I'll probably be adding some of the wedding photographs I've taken if I receive
permission to do so from the happy couples.
